ESA – The Electrical Safety Authority is responsible for regulating the safe use of electricity and equipment in Ontario. The Ontario Electricity Act and the Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act and Regulations established the ESA to enforce the Ontario Electrical Safety Code. An ESA stamp of approval ensures that the product has met the necessary requirements, and is safe to use as an electrical device.
The Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) 23rd Edition/2002 Rule 2-022(1), (2) & (3) states as follows:
No person shall advertise, display or offer for sale or other disposal, or sell or otherwise dispose of any electrical equipment unless it has been approved in accordance with Rule 2-024.
No person shall connect any electrical equipment to a source of electrical power until such electrical equipment has been approved in accordance with Rule 2-024.
No person shall use any electrical equipment unless it has been approved in accordance with Rule 2-024.
The consequences for a person or company in Ontario that contravenes the foregoing the rule’s outlined by the ESA for electrical equipment may be prosecuted and upon conviction subject to fines up to $50,000 and/or one year imprisonment.
CSA – Canadian Standards Association is not-for-profit membership based association recognized the world over for its review of products to ensure the highest levels of quality in workmanship, design, public safety and health are met. ASTM D 6751-03 – The American Society for Testing and Materials is a governing body that develops and publishes technical standards for biodiesel. Under their guidance certain aspects of biodiesel must meet the tightest level of constraints regarding its Flash Point, Cloud Point, Distillation Temperature, Kinematic Viscosity, Cetane Number and various other guidelines to ensure the quality of the biodiesel.
