Biodiesel Market Segments

The rising and unstable fuel costs in today’s economy are effecting many individual and commercial operations. Any party that is currently a user of diesel fueled engines can benefit from the integration of biodiesel produced by the SITTM Biorefinery System™ (SBS) into their current fuel supply. The GBS provides an opportunity to drastically reduce fuel costs in addition to the environmental benefits and savings offered by the government through subsidies, grants, and tax breaks for alternative fuels. Carbon Credit trading has also become a major source of revenues for many businesses who reduce their carbon emissions by using renewable fuels.

Diesel Fuel and Engine Changes

Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuels (ULSD) has been created to address emission problems. This new type of diesel fuel is now being used in many countries including Canada. The fuel was introduced to reduce sulfur levels by 97%, and in turn, reduces particulate matter emissions.

Government

Public interest in energy conservation, as well as a desire by governments to reduce their own fuel costs has lead to increased interest in alternative fuels. The United States military has mandated a 20% blend of biodiesel be used in much of its equipment. The Canadian government has set a goal for 2% renewable fuel content to be added to diesel supplies by 2012. Of the near 26,000 Federal Government vehicles in use, around 1,400 have been adapted to alternative fuels or replaced with hybrid vehicles.

Interest in diesel engines has always been high among consumers. They are recognized for their efficiency, durability and horse power. Within Europe, where the cost of owning and operating a passenger vehicle is high, diesels already account for over 40% of the passenger market fleet. Rising interest in diesel engine vehicles has also increased as fuel costs rise and become more unstable.

Transit

A number of successful studies and pilot projects have been conducted using biodiesel in public transit fleets as well as school buses. These studies have taken place worldwide and have collected data on the cost savings, reduction in emissions, and functionality of the fuel under a variety of conditions.

Transportation

Compliance with government regulations in a variety of states and provinces requires the use of renewable fuels. Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD), has been recently been introduced as the only available diesel fuel on the market in Canada, as it reduces particulate matter emissions. However additional government goals included the use of 2% renewable fuel content, to be added to all diesel fuel by 2012. As an individual involved in the transportation sector it is important to become adapted to these new rules as quickly as possible.

Mining

Biodiesel is safer to use and store than petroleum based diesel fuel. With a significantly lower flash point, biodiesel can reduce the risk and danger to equipment and personnel, by eliminating the concern for unexpected combustion or a resulting fire.

Fisheries

Because renewable fuels can be made from animal oils, the fishing industry has the ability to supply the feedstock to produce biodiesel and use the fuel for their own boat fleets. The need for many boats to carry additional fuel or return to port in order to refuel, can be eliminated with use of a SITTM Biorefinery System™ onboard.

Marine

Biodiesel is non-toxic and biodegradable, making it a very suitable alternative to petroleum fuel in a marine setting. Unlike fossil fuels, if biodiesel is released into the ecosystem it poses no danger to the environment; marine animal, plant, or human life alike.

Heating Oil

As an alternative fuel, biodiesel can meet the needs of those consumers interested in reducing their heating costs. Biodiesel used in a mix or as an overall alternative to petroleum oil for heat will provide the user reduced fuel costs, while reducing the emissions from its combustion.

Oilseed Growers

Growers who are currently engaged in the harvesting of oilseeds have the most to gain from the introduction of biodiesel manufactured by the SITTM Biorefinery System™. This is attributed to the fact that they are growing the feedstock necessary for biodiesel production. A small portion of their yield could be used to manufacture biodiesel which in turn, can be put back into their operations to further reduce the cost of oilseed production and harvesting.

Farm Operations

Farmers in the agricultural industry are faced with enormous obstacles in their efforts to provide themselves and employees with sustainable earnings. As such, farming is now becoming one of the most difficult and arduous professions to remain in. Many reasons exist, but rising fuel costs have been linked as one of the major issues causing a decline in profit levels.
